Bio
Born and raised just outside of our nation's capital in Alexandria, Virginia, David Chan grew up surrounded by a hard working family. He was the youngest out of three siblings by about twelve years. His parents, brothers, and sisters were all immersed in the restaurant business. Each of them had a dream to create a successful restaurant and David was just being dragged along for the whole ride. Growing up in a restaurant had its advantages and disadvantages. At times, the day seemed like it would never end. To pass the time, David began reading comic books and drawing pictures from them. This is where he really began to explore his creativity. This was a good thing, but because he had an endless supply of free food at the restaurant, he began to grow a little hefty as a child. His brother, Walter, thought it would be a good idea to enroll him into a martial arts school. David joined Superkicks Karate around the age of 10 years old. Ever since then, he has remained passionate about martial arts. David's father also introduced him to action films and to stars such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li. He began to dream about starring next to these action heros and so he became curious about theatre throughout grade school.
David Chan attended George Mason University in the fall of 2001. He was always curious about martial arts and in acting, but decided to major in art. It wasn't until his senior year, that he decided to take some acting classes and to seriously explore acting opportunities around Virginia, DC, and Maryland. For his senior digital art project, he planned to create a short action film. What initially was supposed to be a 30 minute project, turned out to be a feature length film at 1 hour and 20 minutes. The film, titled Nocturne, was well recieved by his professors and by his fellow classmates. He graduated in the fall of 2006 and set out to find work as a graphic designer. He continued to look for acting possibilities.
In the summer 2007, David Chan decided to make the exciting move to Los Angeles, California to fully pursue a career as an actor. Since his arrival, he has been working full force to gain experience and learn as much as possible. He enrolled himself at a prestigious acting school (Ivanna Chubbuck Studios) to do scene study and has been studying there ever since. Since studying the Ivanna Chubbuck Technique, he has booked more roles and has been recieved well at auditions. In April of 2008, he booked a lead role in a one-act play called "Juche Rules". This play was part of the USC Masters in Professional Writing One-Act Play Festival. Juche Rules was put up for 2 nights in front of a packed house at the East West Player's David Henry Hwang Theatre. On the last night, Juche Rules and it's writer, Mark Niu, were awarded for best play.
Shortly after the play, David Chan worked closely with Kurando Mitsutake on his feature film called Samura Avenger: The Blind Wolf. David's martial arts training came into play as he stunt doubled Kurando who was the lead actor, director, and writer of the film. Check out its buzz on the following sites:
